Lady of the Forsaken statue
Our Lady of the Forsaken (ships without packaging)
One day, in Valencia, Father Jofré witnessed a group of young people mistreating an intellectually disabled man. After this incident, he decided to build a shelter with a chapel, dedicated to Our Lady of the Forsaken, to welcome and support the handicapped. However, it lacked a statue to put on the altar.
One day, some young pilgrims went to the confrere’s house, said they were sculptors, and agreed to make a statue. They asked for privacy and to be alone while carving the statue. After three days, the pilgrims disappeared and left behind a beautiful statue of Our Lady with the baby Jesus on her lap. Many miracles are associated with this statue, including the confrere's wife, who was blind and paralytic, that was cured before the image. The pilgrims who sculpted that statue came to be considered angels.
