St. Dominic de Guzman
St. Dominic was born to a wealthy family in Spain in 1170. Before he was born, his mother had a dream. She saw a dog running across the world holding a flaming torch in its mouth. This dog would eventually represent the great desire of St. Dominic to help people come closer to Jesus.
St. Dominic became a priest and went to southern France. While there, he encountered many people leaving the faith. St. Dominic decided to spend the rest of his life preaching and leading people back to Jesus. He started a new religious order to help preach and teach. This order was called the Order of Preachers, or Dominicans. Many men and women entered the Order and became priests and nuns, helping St. Dominic to bring people all over Europe back to the faith. It is said that Mary herself appeared to St. Dominic, giving him the rosary.
