Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton

St. Elizabeth Ann Seton was born in New York. Her family baptized her in the Episcopal church. As a child, she loved helping the poor and needy. When she was an adult, she married a very wealthy man, and together they had five children. However, after a few years, her husband died and St. Elizabeth lost their wealth. Soon after her husband’s death, she decided to become Catholic. Eventually, St. Elizabeth founded her own religious order, the Sisters of Charity. She became known as Mother Seton. She opened many Catholic schools and orphanages and was known for her love of teaching children. St. Elizabeth died in 1821 in Maryland. She was canonized a Saint by St. Paul VI in 1975. St. Elizabeth Ann Seton is was the first native born citizen of the United States to be made a Saint.
