Saint John Bosco
St. John Bosco grew up in a poor family in Turin, Italy. When he was a young boy, he experienced many dreams in which God revealed to him that his mission was to work with the youth, especially those who were underprivileged. St. John Bosco attracted the attention of young people by juggling and performing magic tricks. Then, he would teach them the catechism and how to pray. St. John Bosco began studying for the priesthood and was ordained in 1841. As a priest, he opened a boarding house for young boys where they could learn. Soon, other men came to help St. John Bosco and the Salesian Order began. Many schools and workshops were opened because of their efforts. Later in his life, St. John Bosco built a shrine in honor of Our Lady, Help of Christians. Today, the Salesian Order can be found all over the world, working just as St. John Bosco did to pass the faith along to the youth and underprivileged.
