Saint Joan of Arc statue
Saint Joan of Arc
St. Joan of Arc was born in Domremy, France, in 1412. She was raised in a family who loved the Catholic faith. When she was young, she heard the voices of the Archangel Michael, St. Catherine, and St. Margaret, who ordered her to fight in the French Army so that the city of Orléans, which was dominated by the English, would be freed. Doing this would also lead Charles VII to be crowned king of France. St. Joan of Arc did as she was commanded. She fought and won many battles, but in 1430 she was arrested by the Burgundians, who were English allies, and was condemned to death by the Holy Inquisition in 1431, accused of being a heretic and a witch. She was canonized in 1920 by Pope Benedict XV.
